LET’S TALK ABOUT BREAST CANCER

CBCC/F supports the
Department of Public Health
Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program

This federally mandated program has been very successful throughout Connecticut. The program is geared to support medically uninsured and under-insured Connecticut women and provides the following medical services free of charge to eligible women:

  • Clinical Breast Exams
  • Mammography
  • Pelvic Exams and Pap Tests
  • Colposcopy and Biopsy
  • Breast Biopsies
  • Ultrasound of the Breast

Eligibility criteria include:

  • Age: 40 or older for mammograms* and 19 or older for Pap tests
  • Insurance Status: Have no health insurance or have health insurance that excludes routine Pap tests and mammograms.

*Younger women who are symptomatic and/or at high risk for breast cancer—i.e., family history (female/male cancers)—can be deemed eligible for a mammogram.

If you have been diagnosed with breast cancer or cervical cancer under the CDC Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program—provided through the Connecticut Public Health Department—and you meet the following criteria, your treatment is covered under the CDC Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program.

1.) Have been screened for breast or cervical cancer under the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention’s National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program and found to be in need of treatment for breast or cervical cancer, including a precancerous condition of the breast or cervix.
2.) Not otherwise have creditable coverage.
3.) Not attained the age of sixty-five
4.) Not be eligible under any mandatory Medicaid eligibility group.
5.) Must be a resident of this state and a United States citizen or
a qualified alien.
